Position Title: Engagement Lead

What We Do: The Fossil Fuel Atlas is an online, interactive mapping tool to document fossil fuel production’s impacts on people, nature and climate. We support local, regional, and global efforts to halt new fossil fuel expansion and equitably phase down existing infrastructure. Through an open-access global mapping portal, anyone with an internet connection can visualize current and planned fossil fuel infrastructure, and how it overlaps with biodiverse areas, Indigenous territories, protected wetlands, endangered habitat and other areas of social, cultural and ecological importance.  Users can access a large volume of freely available data, from a variety of credible sources, and create bespoke communication tools to document and visualize the risks and impacts of fossil fuel production.  Ultimately, we aim to empower more and more people to expose risks, take more targeted and earlier action, and accelerate the shift from fossil fuels. The Fossil Fuel Atlas is a joint project of the Stockholm Environment Institute, Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, and Global Energy Monitor.

About the Position: This position is a core outreach and engagement role on our small but mighty team. You will build trusted relationships with stakeholders from all over the world, and support them to analyze and publicize the threats and impacts of fossil fuel production using our open-source mapping platform.  You must be excited about talking to anyone and everyone working to end fossil fuel’s destructive impacts on people, nature and the climate, and you share our conviction that geo-spatial information is a powerful catalyst for change.  You will think creatively and strategically about how to source and deploy geospatial information to support campaigns, research and policy advocacy at multiple levels. You will also help convene communities of practice to increase the reach and impact of the Fossil Fuel Atlas.  You will get a lot of support and guidance from our team of experts, and will have a lot of freedom to generate new ideas, approaches and partners.
